Hello my Bloggie friends!!!!

It's freezing here in Indiana this morning, but the sun is shining and I am in a fabulous mood!!! I'm loving my temporary job and of course, I have more things in the works! Walgreens tried to negotiate the Tricare contract separately, but they weren't able to come to an agreement. Walgreens wants to support and serve the military. Drama, mayhem and everyday crap! Drama is having a 17 year old with an 18 year old boyfriend who has unimaginable drama in his home life, which of course, spills over into ours. Then the mayhem of murder in a small town, a shooting in the same town, guns in school where my child is and strep throat that turns into pink eye. Then pile that on to my new job, mounting bills from being unemployed, moving (still unpacking and sorting, by the way) and selling/attempting to sell stuff while downsizing. I'm not sure why I'm so tired... ha!

So why am I sitting here smiling? No, I didn't lose my marbles. I just feel incredibly blessed to have a job, even if it's seasonal, have a child who is more than I could have wished for, a roof over my head (even if I'm not sure how to pay the rent), a vehicle to drive (even though it needs a tune-up and new tires), a loving family and wonderful friends.

Now, if I could just find time to get back to creating...

Sad End of Week and eBay

I've had a crazy mid-end of the week. Training for a new job... at this point, it's seasonal, but I'm hoping it turns into something more. I've also made a mad dash to the old roommate's house to pick up the last of my stuff. Has to be out by tomorrow, and I'm still not done! Getting Lumpkin's license tomorrow, finally... and sadly, found out about the death of her Great Aunt during a home invasion. The police are investigating and we don't know any details yet.

I'm still listing items on eBay. Some items are handmade or embellished by me and the others are just items that I'm parting with while trying to make room in the new place. Gotta find some quick cash for gas money next week, not to mention gas for Lumpkin's car and lunch money for the both of us. It will be nice to have a steady paycheck again.

Oh, and I almost forgot. Someone brought a gun to Lumpkin's school yesterday. (There's also an article about that, but I prefer not to identify her school.) I didn't find out about it until yesterday evening. Thankfully, there was not intention to harm anyone but himself, and he was talked out of it.

Hold your loved ones a little tighter, and don't forget to tell them you love them. You never know when the last time is that you will see them.

Colorful Clothespin Magnets

This isn't a new craft. It's all over blogland and I've actually made them before. I guess I just forgot how time consuming it is. I've noticed that others don't always do more than one step to decorate clothespins, but I like for the whole thing to look good. I painted them first, then cut out the scrapbook paper and mod-podged them on. Once dry, I added the magnets.

I made this latest group just before Christmas for my eBay store. I made between 100-150. I used some magnetic strip I had in my craft stash, but I prefer the stronger single magnets. I have quite a few left, so I will probably put some in my etsy shop too.

Let's jump into the WayBack Machine and travel to 1992. "OMG Becky, look at her butt. It is so big." Mind you, in 1992, I was a much smaller version of myself. I always think of the song "Baby Got Back" any time that part of the anatomy is brought up. I've noticed that I live my life in song lyrics, but that's a post for another day. Due to the fact that I'm a whole lotta woman these days, I read this article about dressing for your body type (see link below) and found it interesting. I don't usually talk about fashion on Lumpkin and Me, but I'm getting ready to start a new job that doesn't require scrubs and I needed some pointers on wardrobe.

Hoarders Wannabe?

I have officially been in the new house for a little over one month and have yet to be completely organized. My friend mentions his opinion that I'm a hoarder every time he comes over and I still haven't put things away. I deny it vehemently. So I got busy this afternoon. I've been sorting, unpacking, pitching and getting stuff ready for Goodwill. There still may be a problem. This house only has two small closets and one belongs to Lumpkin. I can't throw away or give away my craft stuff... I need it!

This leads to the other items, sentimental things... what do you keep and what do you get rid of? It's tough. I try to tell myself that it doesn't matter and that if it were all gone tomorrow, what would I truly miss? That line of thinking has really been helping me and I've gotten a lot accomplished. I'm seeing more and more of my bedroom floor every hour!

I have no idea what type of flowers these are, but I do so love fresh flowers. I think I may purchase some as a Christmas gift to me.

Brief Hiatus

Gypsy that I am, I've moved again! I'm still in the process of unpacking. I have a couple of posts in mind, but there has been a delay with the cable/internet being installed due to the asbestos in the shingles covering our rental home... sounds healthy, huh? I just popped in to the library to take a short break from the feverish crafting I've been doing all day. I found out about a show this weekend and I'm working like crazy to have enough items to take with me for sale. Wish me luck! Hopefully, I can check back in with you this weekend with an update! Not Mechanically Inclined

pay no attention to the paper on the floor...

I've run out of extra cash in getting my new business ready. Can't spend any more until I make some... BUT, speaking of butts, I had to have a comfy chair since I'm here at the laundromat for hours on end.

I was so excited, the chair that I like, which just happens to be red, was on sale at Staples! Not only that, when I got to the register, it was an additional 25% off on clearance!!! Yay me!!!

Here's where the dilemma ensues... I have never been much of a handy-man (woman). The chair was not the display model, but a lovely, brand-new chair, in pieces, in a box! I brought the box into the laundromat this morning and looked at it for a couple of hours until I decided that wasn't going to get my butt in it. Approximately 30 minutes later, Voila'!!! (a personal peeve of mine... learn to spell that word, fellow bloggers!) My new chair is in one piece and I'm sitting in it!

Now, do I need LOTS more color in this newly-painted office? YES, I DO!!!

Pyogenic Granuloma

Just for fun, thought I'd grow a weird thing on my face... but it kept growing and growing... scared the crap out of me. It looked like a blood blister, for lack of a better term. I went to the doctor, who then sent me to another doctor, who specialized in lasers... who then sent me to a plastic surgeon. Soooo, today I had it removed. Yippee! (I was getting really tired of sporting a band-aid to hide the hideousness) Nothing like having a needle jammed into your cheek in twenty different spots to numb it. Ouch!

I'm kind of missing having insurance, but it's a small price to pay for being my own boss. The surgeon is an amazingly great doctor and so kind. He really went out of the way to help me and kept the cost down. I'm now sporting a red gash (several inches long), that is stitched up rather nicely. I'm hoping for very little scarring. I'm thankful that it appears to be something benign. The rate of growth was astounding. I'm supposed to take it easy for a couple of weeks and no heavy lifting for three weeks. A little difficult considering I started a new business, but luckily I have an amazing family that will help me when needed.

I've missed you, my blog friends. Hope you're all well. Would love to hear from you!

There's No Gym...

As promised, I'm sharing a little update on the progress of the new business. I'm offering a drop-off laundry service aimed at the soldiers of Camp Atterbury. Right now, I've finished painting my office and I'm working on the desk. The phone and internet are hooked up and I'm open for business.The building itself is still an ongoing project. My motto for the laundry service is "We do it so you don't have to!"

My plan is to eventually add a couple of tanning beds to the mix. I am going to continue offering spray tans, I've just decided gas is too expensive to continue with the mobile tans.

Besides the fact that I'm going to practically be living here until I get it off the ground, the positives totally outweigh the negatives. I'm a very happy girl!

One of my new favorite things to do is check out pinterest and see how other people would match up clothing and accessories. I always wondered how they did it... I'm a little behind the times. It's on Polyvore! I've been playing on it this evening. I wanted to come up with some outfits that I would so wear. Then I got a little carried away. See, I have this bum ankle and there's no way I could ever wear these high heels, but they were begging to go with this ensemble!

My Creative Classroom

I have been dabbling a lot more with my art and different crafts I've been wanting to try. My favorite right now is mixed media. I found My Creative Classroom and it happens that they were offering a class in it!

The first week's lesson is fabric collage. Something I like, but it never seems to turn out the way I'd imagined. I loved the instructor's example. My project, not so much. It still feels like it's lacking something. Oh well... I think I will try it again sometime when I have all of the supplies I want to use for it, instead of what I had handy. Of course, I could be happy buying supplies every day!

Happiness Is Family

This pic was taken two weeks ago at one of my favorite cousin's wedding reception. The wedding was one of the most beautiful I've ever been to. Not because it was lavish, or expensive, but because of the obvious love and dedication of the two people exchanging vows.

After the wedding, I got to spend time with cousins that I rarely see and I so enjoyed it. It was also nice to see my Dad having such a good time, thoroughly in his element, joking and talking with family and friends.

Back to the picture, a very happy moment. I'm happiest with my family. No one knows me better than my Sisters. I have a little decorative plaque displayed in my home and I think it says it all.

Stupid Fruit Flies!

It started out not being a huge deal, the lone fruit fly... THEN, it seemed he had one thousand friends that dropped in for Fruitflypalooza!

I've been dealing with them for weeks. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get rid of them. I finally looked up solutions online and came up with one that just might work. The only problem is, it involves using apple cider vinegar. My apartment smells lovely right now.

As I type this, I'm about one hour into said experiment. The bowl in the kitchen seems to have contained all the rascals in the immediate vicinity. The bowl in the bathroom, not so much. It has only claimed two victims. The smell isn't doing much for my queasy tummy either. I'll update you later. Any suggestions?

I got a little sidetracked...as usual, but this time by a nasty end of Summer cold that just wouldn't let go! I've just about beaten it now. This is one of the little projects I've been working on. I've had her in my head for a while.

I was trying to take some pics while I still had daylight, but for some reason, they came out with a blue tint. Her bling isn't sparkling in these pics.

The Ugly Truth

I've been in "The Zone" this week. The Crafting Zone. Due to storage constraints in the temporary apartment, I have only had bits and pieces to work with. So, when I found out that the new house still has an indefinite move-in date, I had to bring the rest of my craft supplies with me.

To my delight, not so much Lumpkin's, I have been craft happy for days!
The only problem is, I have so many ideas, that I don't know where to start, so I usually start more than two projects at a time! The pieces above have been prepped, dried, now have been painted and are waiting the next creative steps.

Since I never know what direction I'm going in next, I find it helpful to have all of my supplies, pretty bits, papers, etc. all around.

One thing that Lumpkin and I agree on, I need an organizational system. That would be much easier if our living arrangements were more permanent. For now, I'm using plastic totes, laundry baskets, cardboard boxes, pencil boxes, an older suitcase given to me by a family friend and plastic bags.

My friend was creeped out by the head below... he says it's not normal for someone to have this in their home. I say it is. Especially if you're making headbands and your model is in school all day!

I'm not alone in this chaos... I brought Leia's favorite blanket out and she likes to lie down beside the table while I'm working. She really doesn't care how messy it is at all!

Temporary?

The temporary apartment... we're now into our second month here. Still waiting for the house we're moving into to be completed. The remodeling seems to be taking forever. A friend asked me if they were building a completely new house. Some days it feels that way.

It's not that the view is bad. Although we only have windows on one side, they face the town square, which surrounds the park. It's a second floor apartment, so we have a bird's eye view.

But do you notice the road right out front here (through the chains holding the store sign?)....
Yes, that's right. A STATE ROAD... a highway. Coming from the country, I like things kind of quiet. While it's not horrible, the morning traffic... yuck. Both bedroom windows facing the street.

Happy news though. It's all worth it for the privacy of being in your own place and having central air!!!! Sometimes it's kind of fun when Lumpkin and I peer out the blinds and watch the comings and goings of our small town. Every event is held at the park on the square. It's tough to see the other side of the square due to the trees.

It's also kind of cool, because not a lot of people even know there's an apartment up here. The building is an old building. It is three stories (would love to see that third floor), there's only one other apartment, and the downstairs is a carpet store. On the outside of the building, near the roof, it reads Masonic Temple. I imagine this building has been here for a very long time. We live next to the funeral home and across the street on the opposite corner sits the Corner Cafe. A couple of doors down from our door is our favorite Mexican restaurant, El Jefe. The library is straight through the park on the other side of the square

I'm not gonna lie though. I don't think I'll miss this sign.

One Of The Reasons Why I Love My Daughter

So I'm a little late telling this story, but it began before Lumpkins birthday, which is June 30th.
She texted me one day and said "If I could only get a cool phone, that's the only gift I'd want."
So I told her that after having been in the hospital a few days the month prior, I would not be able to grant this request. (We've been carrying Straight Talk phones for nearly two years - great deals, by the way) Being the awesome child she is, she said "I know" and immediately dropped it.

Two days later on my payday, I went to the local AT&T store after work to sign up for internet service at our temporary apartment, and GUESS WHAT??? I casually asked about the cell phones. Turns out, I didn't need a deposit, and they gave me a major discount on the internet service for buying the cell phone service. Given the cost and my income, it was the only birthday present, but I believe these pictures below say it all. My child is AWESOME.

You'd have thought I'd given her a million dollars. So grateful, so happy and the most amazing and loving child. Thank you Lord. I am blessed. She makes every day worth living. When times are tough, all I have to do is look at her face and know I am loved. I never knew how much my Mom loved me until I became a Mom too. It's the best job ever.

Date Night

Ali and Lumpkin. On a different day, a previous outing. To be young (and thin) again! Ali is Lumpkin's Besty and is now dating her boyfriend's best friend. I knew that these days were coming. I've known it all along. But it still didn't totally prepare me for the sitting up with the lights on, waiting and watching the clock, trying not to call and text too much.

Where do the years go? Wasn't it just yesterday that I was strapping her into her carseat, handing her a sippy cup, singing along to Tom Petty in our old Mercury Sable? Isn't she still in preschool? Tell me I didn't just buy a mini skirt and a pair of 4 inch heels. That must have been some other bad Mom.

Please don't judge me for the 80's mirrored/gold decorating statement above my pup's head... it came with the temporary apartment. Leia is sitting on my lap, shown at HIGH ALERT because it's storming, which sounds suspiciously like fireworks... and let me tell you, my friends, fireworks are no friend to this pooch!

If you read my Monday post, I mentioned the gay hilarity of slipping in the tub/shower and crashing out onto the floor. I am not still laughing. Yesterday was terrible. I hurt in places that I didn't even learn about in my Anatomy classes. A lot of that is gone today, but the spot on my back that I landed on continues to pain me in a major way. Going to the doctor in the morning, insured or not.

My loving little dog Leia hasn't left my lap this evening. It's kind of nice, considering the feeling of being oh... I don't know, chopped liver? I was looking forward to an unusual for us, an evening alone with my daughter (what was I thinking?), when her boyfriend called... oh, to be 17 again! I would have left too!!! But at least I have the little pupster here. And there is a curfew.

Art Journal Page - Sort Of

I've had a lot going on lately. For those of you that stopped by regularly, you probably noticed that I wasn't here anymore. I just kind of dropped off the map. At first, it wasn't intentional. Then it was. I just couldn't make myself open up to anyone anymore. I had to withdraw for a while. I was incredibly unhappy. So unhappy that I didn't even recognize it myself. I made a promise to myself after my Mom died that I wasn't going to keep making the same mistakes and spinning my wheels. Life is too short to work a dead-end job (that doesn't even pay the bills) and makes you crazy in the process. I find myself unemployed again, and guess what? Incredibly happy!!!!

So, while I'm recuperating from yesterday's injuries and searching for a job I can live with, I decided to pursue some different art techniques I'd been wanting to try.

Also, I thought, unintentional, was the symbolism in this first piece. The little saying isn't new, and certainly not mine, but I've loved it since I first saw it on Pinterest. My Sisters will understand the birds, the key, maybe the reddish hair... but the rest of it is all me.

To give you a little background, my Mom, (I talk about her a lot!) was very creative. I never thought I possessed that gene. We had art in school. We had the same art teacher from first grade through high school. We were not fond of each other. She certainly never led me to believe I had any sort of talent, and I had no desire to learn from her if I did. I took one art class in college. I was proud of the work I did there and kept it for years, but still, never really did anything else.

When I found blogs on the internet (cue the angels singing)... I thought I'd found my people! I've still struggled to find my niche. I still don't feel especially creative always, I'm not really a furniture painter, although I may do one or two pieces, but I've found a few friends and their blogs, some etsy shops, and ideas on Pinterest that gave me the smallest inkling that Hey!... I can do this too!!!!

I'm learning every day. There are so many ideas I want to try. So many techniques. Everything is so new to me! It's an adventure finding out how each product will work and what the end result will be. Even if I never do a thing with any of this but put it in a box and get it out and look at it once in a while, it is making me so happy! I think I finally understand the piles and piles of craft and art supplies that my Mom amassed while she was alive and I'm elated that now I'm working with those same brushes, hopefully with the same joy. I sure hope she's smiling down on me as I work.

Here's Hoping For An Injury Free Monday

Had a huge day planned... Church in the morning, Family Reunion at Noon, and Community Night from 4:00-8:00pm on the Square in town. I let Lumpkin take her shower first, as she takes a little longer to get ready. I hopped in the shower, turned around to wet my hair to wash it... didn't even make it that far... not even a drop of water on the hair.

Next thing I knew, KABAM! Backwards, out of the tub, my upper thighs catching the top edge of the metal piece where there used to be a glass door instead of a shower curtain and almost head over heels, all of my weight, like a ton of bricks on the center of my upper back, landing on the floor. I hit so hard, it knocked all of the air out of me, I couldn't breathe, couldn't speak, couldn't move. Scared the crap out of my kid... she's crying, I'm moaning, unable to move, trying (in my little nurse head) to assess any possible horrible disfiguring injury, while I'm lying naked on the shower curtain.

Is she scarred for life? Actually one of the first thoughts in my mind, because you know this isn't a pretty picture. Am I going to be able to get up? Are there going to be emergency personnel in my bathroom seeing me naked? Of course, I probably know most of them... I'm finally able to squeak out,"It's ok, go on..." waving her out. "Ill be out in a minute."

By the time I drag myself to the bed, I'm chuckling in embarassment, trying to get her to laugh, instead of crying, but all I succeed in doing is making her mad because she's so upset. She truly did not know what to do. So tonight was Emergency 101... in the event of a true emergency, this is what you should do. I thought at 17 she knew... so my Bloggie friends, never assume... you might ask your kids what they would do if you were a big goober and fell out of the tub!

P.S. I think I'm Ok... just extremely sore. I also have some technicolor bruising on the backs of my thighs. Gonna give it another day or two on the back. I always manage to have some major fiasco when I am uninsured.

A Belated Birthday

My Birthday was yesterday. There really wasn't a cake... so there weren't any candles. No party at all, really. I did get a lovely gift and card from my baby girl. She's the sweetest! And my family will does a combined party for my sister and I later in the month. We used to do one that included my Papaw. He would have been 96 on the 11th of this month. I miss him. When I get into my new home, I'm going to plant a big sunflower, just for him!

All I really wanted was a little kiss and a hug from a special someone... and I got that! So I'm a happy girl! But for those of you that might have missed my birthday, see the pic below. You can send him to Hope, Indiana. I'm sure Angelina has bored of him by now... tee hee...

That is a short definition. But if you read up on it, it is really so much more. Feng Shui is an Eastern philosophy and there are no shortage of books to read on the subject. My Mom and I became interested in the subject many years ago. She dabbled a little, and went so far as to make a few small changes in their home and business areas and was happy with the results.

I'm going to talk less about the subject of Feng Shui and more about the responsibility of being the author of a blog. I have been away from my blog for some time now due to personal reasons. However, before I left my blog, I had been exploring opportunities to make some additional income to help Lumpkin and I. I grow tired of struggling. I have struggled my entire adult life. But I digress, there are no shortcuts. I had added a website that I did not do my homework on. I am too trusting. Move On Hold

So far the move is on hold. The house we chose is still being remodeled. My frustration is compounded by the fact that we do not have air conditioning in the old house - roommate's choice, not mine!

I had barely been home long enough to take my shoes off when the Tornado sirens began to blare. After seeing all of the news footage lately, I was scared! Lumpkin and I hid out in the bathroom and I had her jump in the tub and cover up with a comforter. We had our little Leia with us too. We could hear on the scanner that there was damage and buildings down somewhere. I was thankful when the sirens stopped and we were safe!

Lumpkin and I are moving again. This makes four times in two years. All told, well over forty moves for me since the age of eighteen. Just when I'm feeling like the worst Mom in the world, Lindsay says "I can't wait to move! It's exciting every time!" What a kid! As much as we love our good friend Hasseman, it's just not working out. Living together is tough and I don't want our friendship to suffer. He was in a bind, we were in a bind, and thought we could pool resources. Losing the job I had and being unemployed for two months made a bad financial situation worse. Then take into account a new, lower-paying job, longer commute and new bills and something's gotta give. So we are moving back to the small town we were living in (ten minutes away) for cheaper rent, lower utilities and the privacy that we had living alone. Just wanted to give my blog friends the heads-up that I may be MIA while making the move. Thanks for understanding!

Not The Mother's Day I Had Planned

I didn't feel well on Mother's Day. I didn't feel right when I woke up and the symptoms became worse throughout the day. I was still feeling chest pressure, back pain and difficulty breathing close to bedtime, so I called my sister and asked her to pick me up.

Two days later... I have a hospital bill (the good news is, the tests came back great) and I'm waiting to get my car back. It has been in the shop for a new transmission. When it rains, it pours. I'm trying to keep a brave face, but it's difficult. I was just starting to see a little light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm starting to feel like all I ever share with you is health issues. So, I will give you the latest anyway! lol I've had ankle pain and swelling for a couple of years. I just figured it was arthritis and my weight probably wasn't helping it. I sit all day at my job, so I was surprised by the way it was swelling and it hurt even more than usual.

I normally have slender ankles. (The only thin part of me!) ;)

I spoke with the doctor I work for and he referred me to our in-house podiatrist. I had x-rays two days ago and found out today that I have a quarter sized bone chip on my ankle from an old injury that healed. So now I get to have a fun cortisone shot, and if that doesn't work, then it's surgery. Yippee...

I posted on facebook that I AM IRON WOMAN... chip a bone and just keep going... Hey! It made ME laugh!!!

Can You Say Yummy?

When I got home from work tonight, Hasseman was already here. That rarely happens. He generally gets home about 30-45 min. after I do. He said he was off to mow the yard, and out the door he went. Before too long, he was back, saying "Look what I found!"

He had run over one, but was able to save it and stopped the mower to look for more. He ended up bringing 6 rather large Morel Mushrooms in to soak. I LOVE them!!! My Dad called last night to tease Lumpkin about having eaten some without her. She loves them too. Last year was not good for them here, so it's happy news to hear that people are finding them everywhere this Spring.

Now we just need at least a bread sack full for a nice snack! If you're not familiar with them, you first soak them in salt water to remove any unwanted guests after slicing them in half, let them soak overnight, then flour them and fry them, adding a little salt and pepper. Delicious!!!

Shooting For Etsy Success

I keep getting sidetracked from the progress I need to make in order to open my etsy shop. I have some handmade items, some vintage linens and enough supplies to keep adding to it. So the question I pose to you, my experienced etsy-selling friends, is how many items should I post/have on hand to open my shop? I'm not exactly sure what my niche is yet, but I plan on offering a variety to see where it all goes. I'd love to be able to sell a number of different things because I'm sure I'd get bored if I made the same type of item over and over. I'll take any and all advice that you have to offer! Thanks!

I'm Back! And Flower Time!

So, I'm still taking antibiotics. I didn't miss any work, but I went to bed early every night this week and I'm feeling better. Thanks for the well wishes! Today, Hasseman asked me if I wanted to go to the local greenhouse with him. Ummm... yeah! He gets free flowers every year, but not until around June. He had the planting bug and wanted some Pansies. We picked out six different colors and brought them home. This is a Bleeding Heart plant that came up from last year. I LOVE PINK!!! I picked out this Happy, Sunshine-y yellow Pansy.

Here is the small flat we brought home. Can you tell the deck needs some TLC?

Not sure about this one- looks like a Hosta. Today I spent more time outside than I have since last year, and it felt great! What did you do this weekend?

Unscheduled Blog Break

I've heard of Cat In The Hat and Jack in the Box, but this is ridiculous! ;) Hasseman has two cats, Princess and Lolly, so named when he rescued them from an uncertain fate. Their owners could no longer keep them and he took them in. Princess and Lolly are sisters. I like to think of Princess as the big sister. She is more mature, stately, and well, fluffy. She can't be bothered with silly pursuits. Lolly, on the other hand, is like the kid sister, wild, unruly, and tries to escape every time the door is open. Princess is the lady of the house, and let me tell you, Hasseman is her man! She really has very little to do with anyone else. Lolly is a bit more playful and not quite as picky about her playmates. They are beautiful cats. Now, if I can just get Lolly to sit still long enough for her photographic debut!

All White Decor - Yes or No?

I'm enamored with the fresh look of all white (really more off-white) as a decorating statement. I'm just not sure I could do it for long, and certainly not the whole house.

The more I've looked, the more I've decided I could not live with an all white bedroom. Too utilitarian. Just doesn't look inviting to me. But I do love Rachel Ashwell. She has some beautiful things on her Shabby Chic website.

But this one is better. A little hint of color. I'd still have to do something with that bare wall.

I have to have a little color. Especially in the kitchen. To me, the kitchen in all white lacks warmth and a feeling of home. It gives it an almost industrial look. But, that is my opinion, and you know what they say opinions are like!

Not all white, but just right.

I'm at that point in this little project. You know, the one where you're wondering... "Is this done? Does it need more?" It still seems a little bare to me. I'm dissatisfied with the cut-outs of the words. Lumpkin said the only thing she likes about it is the fuzzy button I added. And I thought I was my toughest critic!

My boyfriend, Brooks So, my boyfriend calls and says " Baby, ya gotta stop working so hard... kick off those working shoes, and let me massage your feet. I'll be over soon, and I'm fixing you dinner when I'm done"... Is that my boyfriend? you ask... Ummmm, yes. Well, no, not technically, but in my mind he is! (Sadly, in reality, no boyfriend.) I don't go for smokers, but this time I'll make an exception. Gotta run... need to get to the studio. Lots of work to do. Besides, I think Thor is waiting for me. I'm getting realllly aggravated with blogger. Every time I post, the pics and paragraphs go wherever they want to. Anyone else having trouble? P.S. Still working on those projects from the weekend.

Our Baby

It occurred to me this evening that I haven't talked about our baby in a very long time. This is Leia. She has been with us since the age of one. She is now four. She is the most sweet, loving, cuddly and smart puppy baby ever! It's kind of hard to see in the picture above, but she is cradling her baby in her paws. It's icky and needs a bath, but that little rabbit is her absolutely favorite toy! Leia was crate trained when we became her owners, so her crate is where she feels most safe when we have to leave the house. She is so smart! She knows that when Lumpkin grabs her coat and school bags in the morning, that it's time for her to go to her bed and she trots off to it! She knows a ton of commands, or shall we say suggestions? lol... She has selective hearing... kind of like some men I know. ;)

She's our baby, and we love her!

Oh Treadclimber, how I heart thee... I yearn for thee madly, my large butt needs you badly, but alas, my wallet is bare. A single Mom's paycheck is spent on things such as food, rent, utilities, car payment, clothing (such as a prom dress for my beautiful daughter), driver's ed... ya know?.... How does a deserving woman acquire such a treasure? These are the questions I ponder... I guess I will need to figure out how to go with less sleep and get that etsy shop open.

Nutella Party!

Recently I was given an opportunity to receive some gifts (Nutella sample packets, breakfast tips cards and travel mugs) from Nutella and held a party to share some of the treats with other Mommies. This event was possible through Nutella and Mom Select's Mommy Parties. Getting together with friends is so much simpler and less expensive when nearly everything you need is supplied!

I had never tried Nutella before, even though I had heard of it. Oh my goodness! If you've never tried it, you're in for a treat! It is my new favorite!! I've seen several recipes that sound very yummy, but my theory is, who needs something to put it on when you have a spoon and a glass of milk to drink? lol... seriously though, one of the blogs I read used it on crepes and it looked soooo good!

Nutella is a tasty hazelnut spread with ingredients like skim milk and cocoa. It is used widely on toast and other breakfast breads. It just didn't appeal to me that way, so I looked up a ton of recipes that used Nutella. You can't go wrong with it... so many possibilities!

Unplanned Break

It doesn't really look like the illustration... (not even close. it's much smaller) and I didn't break or injure it, but I've been dealing with ankle pain and swelling off and on for well over one year. It has been really aching the last few days and it was swollen enough to bother me at work today. I had my shoe off and one of the nurse practitioners asked me if I'd injured it after she saw the swelling. After a little discussion, she decided a brief course of steroids was in order. I'm to start them in the morning, so tonight I am reclining with my foot up and it has changed the plans I had in mind.

I have a small paper project in pinks planned, but after taking some anti-inflammatory medication and relaxing, I'm too tired to proceed with the crafting tonight.

I'm really excited. I've recently one two giveaways on other blogs (will post details when I receive them). One is a box of baking and craft supplies and the other is a signed copy of the new Pioneer Woman book! Woohoo!!!

A Bonfire Makes Everything Better!

Yesterday afternoon, Hasseman picked up downed branches from the yard and cut up the larger pieces. When he announced he'd be starting a fire, I said "you should wait until dark!" I do so love a bonfire... many fond memories from high school and fall parties. I was so excited, I took a picture with my phone (thus the poor quality - it fails to capture the magic). Lumpkin was spending the weekend with her Dad and I wanted to share the festivities. I liked it so much, I want to share it with you. We pulled out a couple of lawn chairs and shared a drink. It was a perfect evening.

Easy Quiche

So technically, it's not a real quiche, but let's not split hairs. This is good stuff!!! My daughter loves it, my roommate loves it, and I'm a hero when I make it!

I got the recipe from allrecipes in 2005. I thought I'd lost it forever, but found it when we moved in with Hasseman (that's hat man in German - story for another day), our roommate, and was excited to make it for him. I usually make it with ham. That's how Lumpkin and I prefer it, but he mentioned he'd like to try it with sausage, and since Lumpkin is at her Dad's this weekend, we had it with sausage.

Yummy!!!!

Here's the recipe: Easy Quiche

2 cups milk

3/4 cup biscuit baking mix

2 eggs

1/2 cup butter softened

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 (10 ounce) package chopped frozen broccoli, thawed and drained

1 cup cubed cooked ham (or cooked sausage)

8 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 10 inch quiche dish.

In a large bowl, beat together milk, eggs, baking mix, butter and parmesan cheese. Batter will be lumpy. Stir ion broccoli, ham and cheddar cheese. Pour into prepared quiche dish.

Bake in preheated oven for 50 minutes, until eggs are set and top is golden brown.

Now, I may have mentioned before, that I rarely follow a recipe exactly... even when I use one. I do not use a quiche dish for this because I add extra ingredients to the above and sometimes throw in some that aren't on the list. Since Lumpkin wasn't here, I added onions this time.

You should also season to taste. I use salt and pepper, a dash of seasoned salt, and garlic. You can use whatever you like! I also add more eggs... I used 4 or 5 for this one.

A Pay It Forward Gift From Michelle

I have recieved my gifts from Michelle!!! The package is so sweetly wrapped in pattern paper, and the gifts are lovely! Thoughtfully handmade and perfect for me!

I loved each little piece and couldn't wait to look inside the tempting package. There were also some little bird shapes cut from book print, but I forgot to take a picture. Very sweet!!!

I have not made my Pay It Forward gifts yet. I hope to get a start this weekend. You may ask yourself what I'm doing inside on such a beautiful day... I am listing items that Lumpkin no longer treasures on ebay (and it takes forever!), but I do have Bob Seger playing on the stereo as I work in the sunroom with the sliding glass door open allowing the outside to come in. (The roommate's cats are loving me for it!) Hopefully, I will be able to fit a little creating in while the light is still so fabulous. Gotta run now. I have a quiche baking in the oven. And We Interrupt This Woman's Crafting ...

I've been missing my Daddy. I couldn't visit him last week with pink eye. Not only because of how contagious it is, but mainly because of all of the immune system meds he has to take for his transplanted kidney. Long story, may share it sometime. It's kind of sad. Anyway, I get this picture text from my sister this morning...

What in the world??? When I called her, she said he'd been bitten by a spider... ewwwwww!!!
She took him to an immediate care and he was given antibiotics and instructed to go home, keep his arm elevated and put warm compresses on it. It looks much better tonight. I stopped in to see him and spend some time with The Best Dad EVER!

To know him is to love him! When the doctor asked him what he had planned to do, he said "I'm going to run my dozer." (he has a small paving business) Here's where you picture the doctor giving him the raised eyebrow and saying "Ummmm... NO you're NOT." I love it. He's always been very much the HE-man, but he generally bows to what his doctor tells him and even most of the time to the wishes of his three girls. I think he loves the attention, even when he acts like he doesn't.

I'd like to say this is what my eyes look like... but that would be a lie. Yep. I've got it. Pink Eye.

Never had it before, don't much care for it. Highly contagious and still expected to be at work. Gotta love it! Anyhoo, almost the weekend.

Using some highly sexy, gunky ointment in my eyes. I haven't been able to wear any eye makeup for several days, and now I'll have to throw it all away and buy all new.

Here's to an all-girls weekend at my house! Our roommate is taking off for the weekend. I have LOTS of crafting/creating planned!!!

Did Someone Say Stash?

Just a small portion of what I purchased with my tax check. We won't talk about what I already have in my closet!

Unfortunately, true to my previous post, I was worn out and napped/rested most of the weekend. (At least the parts where I wasn't driving Lumpkin to and fro). So I did not create the things that I wanted to, and there will be an early bedtime tonight to prepare for the busy Monday ahead.

Those of you in the call centers, phone triage world surely feel my pain. Monday mornings and Friday afternoons are killer. However, on a brighter note, I thought I'd share some of my recent crafty purchases that are just begging to be made into something beautiful.

I love these girls! I purchased the larger of the two on etsy and her little sister was thrown in as a freebie!!

Another etsy purchase. These came in a batch of blue items. Can't wait to use them!

Some of the pics have a little blur to them. I'm still trying to get used to my new Sony Bloggie. It is truly operator error, but it is soooo much better than the old camera! I'm hoping for a surge in energy this week so I can get back to creating. Hope your weekend was productive!

Have I mentioned that I'm not a morning person? I am really struggling today to stay awake at my desk. Instead of looking forward to the weekend to accomplish my goals, I look forward to it to catch up on much needed sleep. It's miserable being this tired every day. I get mad at myself for not getting more things done, but I'm just too tired.

I'll have the house to myself this weekend. I know what I need to get done, but I'm longing for the comfort of my bed. And don't ask. As a matter of fact, I do have an appointment scheduled for myself. I'm sure it will be the same as usual. Blood drawn will show nothing abnormal. Not exactly the life I'd planned for myself.

Interesting conversation with the ex-boyfriend last night, but that's a sad story for another day.

I've never been good at making or keeping a budget. As a single Mom, it seems like something unexpected always pops up and a budget is impossible.

2. Do you do spring cleaning and if so which month?

I do my spring cleaning in small doses. There's never enough time to do it all at once.

3. Are you a yard sale lover and do you have them and go to them?

I love yard sales, but I'm not a morning person, so it's hard to get up that early. I had one two years ago with my sister and the money was nice, but it was a lot of work.

4. What do you take when you have a headache?

I'm on celebrex, so I usually take Tylenol, but I love Excedrin Migraine.

5. Name 3 things that you feel lucky to have in your life!

This one's easy! My family (especially my baby girl), my friends, and an exciting new career.

I know there are a lot of awards out there, but this one is very special. It's from my good friend, Cindy Adkins (Cindy Adkin's Whimsical Musings). She is such a dear and she sent me the nicest note with it.

If you haven't visited her etsy shop, you need to! She is such an amazing artist. I purchased one of her necklaces recently, and I love it! I also bought a creative supplies package she put together and it has some really neat items in it. Not only did I receive the things I ordered, but I also received a couple of personalized gifts from her. Slow Going On The Etsy Shop

I've been working on items for my etsy shop, but with a full-time job and other obligations, I'm a little behind schedule.

This is one of the items that will be in the shop.

Here are a couple of other views. I took the time (finally) to come up with a disclosure policy for the occasional reviews that I do. It's listed at the bottom of the blog page... not my first choice, but I messed up the header below my main header, and when I tried to contact my blog designer, it goes to some random blog about getting pregnant with a girl. wth? I could tell you how I did it without a blog platform, but that would be TMI, right?

I'm wanting to go from blogger to wordpress, but I just don't think I'm brave (stupid) enough to do it on my own without some help. If you've made the switch, did you do it alone or with a designer?

I haven't figured out how bloggers/etsy shop owners fit it all in, but I'm trying!

Thirsty Thursday

Hanging out today at For The Love Of Blogs. We're celebrating Thirsty Thursday. I've had a sinus headache all day, so I'm going to pass on drinks of the alcohol variety. Instead, I'm enjoying a tall, icy Pepsi!Love the name of this particular Thursday post. It reminds me of days gone by. "Back in the day", I went to Ball State University (let's say mid 80's) and the second year of college, I lived off-campus with friends. I ended up becoming friends with the girls that lived downstairs because the girls I lived with were just a little too... shall we say... goody-goody? But they were nice girls and we got along well. That winter I hung out a lot with the girls downstairs.
The following summer, I moved downstairs and took summer classes. It was the best summer of my life. We had so much fun. When we weren't going to parties, we were having parties. And when we weren't doing that, we went down to The Chug for Thirsty Thursdays and quarter beers. I've never been much of a beer drinker, but as a poor college student, you can't argue the value...

Who am I kidding? Yuck!!!
But I wasn't really there for the beer. I was there because I knew Smitty would be there. His roommates were friends with my roommates and I was sooooo crushing on him. And we'd dance! He definitely falls into that category 0f "if I'd only known then what I know now". I let him slip through my hands. He didn't tell me until later (when it was much too late) that the feelings were mutual.

When I was home and couldn't go anywhere, this was my favorite show to watch. Mom loved it too.

Extra points for you if you can name the above artist!

P.S. If Lumpkin hears about quarter beers and me, I will deny it all. ;)

When we had our own house, it was set on 70 degrees, but living with Hasseman, it is usually set on 68 degrees.

It depends on the day. Sometimes in the morning, but usually at night, because I work during the day.

For me, comfort food usually means something substantial, and it always includes potatoes, but yesterday I wanted something sweet, so I made Maple-Cinnamon-Pecan Pull Aparts. It's a recipe that I've had since 2008 and it comes from the Pillsbury website. Oh, and there are no potatoes. ;) Let's just say that after a less than stellar weekend, my little heart needed some comfort. These are yummy! In fact, I forgot to take a picture until after I'd already eaten!

Yes... that back corner was mine!!! And it was so tasty right out of the oven with a cold glass of milk.

Maple-Cinnamon-Pecan Pull Aparts

1/2 cup chopped pecans

1/3 cup packed brown sugar

2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted

1/4 cup sour cream

1 teaspoon maple flavor or vanilla

1 can (17.5 oz) Pillsbury Grands! Flaky Supreme refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 8 X 4 inch loaf pan with cooking spray. In large bowl, mix all ingredients except cinnamon rolls with icing.

2. Separate dough into 5 rolls; set icing aside. Cut each roll into quarters; add to pecan mixture, tossing gently to caot. Spoon roll mixture into pan.

3. Bake 45-50 minutes or until deep golden brown. Cool 10 minutes. Turn upside down onto serving plate or platter. Spread with icing. Serve warm.
